Katie Thompson is a Senior Advisor to the Financial Services Volunteer Corps (FSVC), based in Brasília, Brazil. Previously, Ms. Thompson served as Director of Communications and Development in FSVC’s New York office, where she was responsible for the organization’s communications efforts as well as public and private sector fundraising. Ms. Thompson also has extensive field experience, having previously established and managed FSVC’s technical assistance programs in Angola, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia, among others. From 2013-2015, she was FSVC Southern Africa Regional Program Advisor based in Maputo, Mozambique, where she developed and implemented technical assistance programs throughout Southern African on anti-money laundering, small business lending, and public financial management. Ms. Thompson joined FSVC as Program Officer based in Nairobi, Kenya in 2011, where she managed anti-money laundering/combating the financing of terrorism (AML/CFT) projects in East Africa and worked to support regional financial integration within the East African Community (EAC). Prior to joining FSVC, Ms. Thompson worked at the American Insurance Association as Senior Manager for Public Affairs, handling media and communications efforts for international and domestic regulatory and legislative issues. She began her career working for the Financial Services Forum, a Washington DC-based trade association comprising CEOs from the top 20 financial institutions in America. Ms. Thompson holds a Master’s degree in International Policy and Development from Georgetown University and received her Bachelor’s degree in International Studies from the Johns Hopkins University.
